About
Grainsmith Field is a granular instrument for iPad and iPhone. Load a sound or record one live, then pull it apart into grains. Stretch and scatter it until it stops sounding like the source, or pitch it and play it like an instrument. It shares its granular engine with our desktop Grainsmith plugin, but it's rebuilt for touch. Field is a single multitouch screen: four XY pads control paired para…

Live mode: grains no longer jump when the record head passes the play position. Recording into a live loop used to move any grain the record head was about to overwrite. You heard that as the cloud lurching backward and then forward again each time the head swept past. Now the buffer crossfades underneath instead, so the sound morphs from what was already in the loop to what you are recording, and grains stay where you put them.
- v1.4.14d ago
Bug fix to make the new LFO feature work better when LFOs are synced to the host tempo.
- v1.3.215d ago
Playheads 2 and 3 now have their own Size and Spread. Open the Playheads sheet and each extra head has Size and Spread sliders next to Speed, Pitch, and Level. A new head starts matched to Playhead 1 so it sounds full right away, and from there you can make it bigger, smaller, wider, or narrower. Also fixed: long grains on an extra head no longer shrink as you raise Density. The grain overlap limit now accounts for every head's grain size, so a big grain keeps its length.

Record your performance. Start a recording from the presets menu and everything you play goes to a WAV file — it keeps recording through app switches and screen locks, with a Lock Screen Live Activity while it runs. Recordings land in the Files app under Grainsmith Field > Recordings, ready to share. Also in this update: - Smoother texture with two or three playheads: grain attacks no longer stack on the same sample. - Live mode + Area Select: grains now cover the whole selected region while recording, instead of bunching near the end. - Fixed rare playhead position glitches when scrubbing during playback.

Fixes audio export saving a blank file. Thanks to the folks on the Loopy Pro forum for the report.
