GainScout is in beta, and while I gather feedback the free allowance is temporarily bigger. Free accounts now get 5 land checks a week instead of 3, can keep 5 saved sites instead of 3, get 2 extra free reports on top of the usual one, and get one Area Scan a week, which is normally part of Pro. This is temporary. It runs until 31 December 2026, and then the free tier goes back to 3 checks a week, 3 saved sites and 1 free report. Nothing you have bought is affected, and nothing is removed. Open the app and a short walkthrough explains what beta means, what the temporary allowance is, and where to send feedback. GainScout is built by one independent developer, and every message is read. A check now tells you who might buy, not only what your land is. It names the planning authority your pin sits in, and the National Character Area, because those two boundaries decide whether a development can use units from your land at full value or at a discount. It then says how much developments in that authority have actually taken from the public register of gain sites. It also reads the habitat map and the farmland grade together, to say whether there is much room to improve or little, and it warns when ground looks uncultivated or semi-natural, because improving that can need a decision from Natural England before any work starts. A saved site now says what can be surveyed this month and what is out of season. None of that changes where the answers come from. The same official sources answer, and every finding still names the source it came from and the moment it was checked. Also in this version: checks are much faster and lighter on mobile data, flood findings now say the risk is from rivers or the sea, which is what the flood zone data actually models, and the bundled register of gain sites is current to 7 September 2026.
